In the world of winemaking, the family-owned and operated Sauska Winery of Tokaj in northeast Hungary represents an extraordinary new construct of architectural and interior design innovation — a genre-breaking, state-of-the-art wine manufacturing plant built atop the rolling hills of one of the country’s UNESCO World Heritage sites. Opening in 2024 the avant garde structure was created by BORD Architectural Studio to be visually spectacular with an astonishing, ecologically communal presence in the terrain. Despite its size and scale, the brilliantly designed edifice magically blends into its surroundings. Working in close harmony with the extraordinary building and to arm its decisive connection with nature, Tihany Design created fresh, fluid and organic interiors using natural materials of local stone, wood and metal in celebration of the local landscape, to ensure unmistakable unity with the environment.
