The Office NYC
The Office NYC, Mandarin Oriental New York. Accessible only through a hidden passage behind The Aviary NYC's Drink Kitchen, The Office is a bygone enclave with the exclusive air of a 20th century speakeasy. Once under the dark coiffured ceiling, guests are immediately enwrapped in the magnetic buzz of the cozy nostalgic bar. Across the smoky parquet floor, vintage area rugs lay the foundation for a variety of deep-seated leather club chairs and wood and black stone-topped coffee tables. Moody, textured glass windowpanes and a running metal beam extending the perimeter of the space conjure images of an industrial, turn of the century New York loft. At the six-seat upholstered bar, hanging lights with seeded glass and filament bulbs illuminate the wood and bronze bar top, while cowhide stools and a whimsical monkey lamp invite a lighthearted spirit to the bar area. In addition to the impressive presentation at the bar, The Office features an 'extinction' collection of some of the rarest spirits in the world. The Office is filled with what feels like collectors items, from the astute tripod floor lamps resembling vintage calipers to the central metal shelves filled with unique 'found' objects and books. Sinking into one of the club chairs, drink in hand; visitors to The Office may linger to discover the many interesting details woven into this charming space.
