The Aviary NYC, Mandarin Oriental New York. In its first location outside of Chicago, The Aviary brings the theatrical cocktails of famed American chef Grant Achatz to New York. Conceptualized as a 'restaurant for drinks,' The Aviary's exceptionally innovative drink menu calls to savor each sip as you would the courses of a Michelin dinner. With eyes on the expansive wall of windows, guests descend the stairs into the alluring design of the contemporary cocktail lounge. Plush cream and blue leather swivel chairs congregate around art metal-topped coffee and cocktail tables throughout the sexy, curving space. Large, sweeping floor lamps arch over comfortable rounded sofas, while beige and tan dots form playful swirls against the carpet's dark blue field. The coveted Manhattan views, dramatically framed by woven gold metal mesh matching that at the entrance, are visible from every seat in the lounge. Overhead, curving, ribbon-like gold light fixtures weave fluidly across the dark ceiling. The white oak and metal fin clad columns mirror the variety of textures throughout the clubby dining room. Seconded only to the stunning view is the elevated glass-enclosed Drink Kitchen, at which studied Aviary Chefs prepare complex drink offerings. Each of the black porcelain tiled stations features hand blown glass light fixtures and custom bar equipment.
